SeaWorld killer whales released back to the ocean?

800px-Killerwhales_jumpingSeaWorld San Diego could be forced to stop its killer whale shows by a California bill that would ban using orcas in performances, keeping them in captivity, end breeding programs, as well as the import and export of the animals. Similar bills are proposed by activists in Florida and Texas where SeaWorld has theme parks. The bill was inspired by the documentary “Blackfish”, a Magnolia Pictures production. The film recalls the death of a SeaWorld trainer caused by a 12,000-pound killer whale in Orlando in February, 2010. Continue reading “SeaWorld killer whales released back to the ocean?”

The snowstorm affects Florida airports as well

A major snowstorm dumped more than a foot of snow in cities across the north-east US early Friday morning, causing thousands of flight cancellations, school closures and paralyzing road travel. Though weather in Orlando stays calm, this causes serious problems for people traveling to and from Midwest and northeast parts of the country. Flights to other parts of the country also were delayed as the effects of the storm rippled through the nation’s airline system. On Thursday U.S. airlines canceled more than 2,300 flights due to snowfall and low visibility. There are currently no flights in or out of John F Kennedy International Airport, according to the airport’s website. Fliers are recommended to check with their individual airlines for an update on flight status. The terminals remain open. La Guardia and Newark airports are experiencing heavy delays.

The previous record had stood for 85 years – since 1928 – and was 85 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, the next days also have the potential of setting records. Yet Christmas is expected to be a little more chilly (Florida standards)
