Walt Disney World Sets July 11 Reopening Date for Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom

Walt Disney World announced plans on Wednesday to cautiously open its gates July 11.

Disney’s theme parks in Florida have been closed since March 15 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and their reopening will follow its Florida rival, Universal Orlando, which is set to reopen June 5.

SeaWorld Orlando also presented its plan to Orange County’s Economic Recovery Task Force and plans to reopen for employees on June 10, and for the public on June 11.

Disney Florida launches three-story high Skyliner gondolas

Disney World officially opened its Skyliner service to the public, giving Orlando guests high-flying transportation.

Disney World has introduced the Skyliner, an aerial cable car system with 300 colorful gondolas that whisk visitors from hotels to theme parks. Six miles of cable and five stations link Walt Disney World’s resorts with Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot Center.

Drones coming to Disney World

400px-Disneyworld_fireworks_-_0215Disney is planning to use drones as part of their theme park shows. Last week, the mega-amusement park filed for three drone patents, envisioning flying robots that could animate giant puppet Disney characters, carry large aerial projection screens or act as floating pixels in virtual fireworks shows.

According to the three recently published patent applications, the first one describes the use of multiple drones that pull the strings on super-large marionettes, moving their limbs.
