Orlando Solar Bears Fan Wins $100K on One Shot

Solar Bears season-ticket holder Nick Giovanelli is $100,000 richer thanks to his victorious shot attempt at an ECHL game on Thursday.

An exciting Thursday night for the fans of the Orlando Solar Bears on two levels because maybe inspired by the fan’s shot, the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL affiliate for the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs) had their final home of the season and beat the Florida Everblades 4 to 3 thanks to an overtime goal by Patrick Watling, keeping their playoff dreams alive.

During the first intermission, the 8,226 in attendance witnessed a Florida man hit the jackpot after he made a shot from the far blue line and managed to nail the puck 115 feet into the tiny gap of the goal on his first attempt. Given that the puck is 3 inches and the slot in the cutout covering the goal is four inches, some people would say scoring from that distance would be practically impossible.

Well not for Giovanelli from St. Cloud, Florida, chosen at random to take a shot at Amway Center during the ECHL team’s regular-season finale. It was the first time the Solar Bears ever did the promotion and the luckiest fan and went home $100,000 richer.

The team posted a video of the incredible shot on their Twitter page.
