Disney Names the Hippo Born at Animal Kingdom

Park officials at Animal Kingdom in Orlando announced Wednesday their baby Nile hippopotamus is a male and his name is Augustus.

The calf was born on January, 13. This is the first hippo born at Animal Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista in more than 13 years, Disney officials say.

Disney didn’t know Augustus’ sex until this week. Usually, a newborn calf weighs between 50 and 110 pounds and a hippo’s sex isn’t known immediately after the birth.

Augustus currently weighs 168 pounds and is often seen staying close to his mom, named Tuma. A video went viral showing Augustus in action, swimming, snoozing and walking around with his mother. Continue reading “Disney Names the Hippo Born at Animal Kingdom”

Disney World’s Long-Awaited Toy Story Land to Open June 30

Toy Story is coming to life at Walt Disney World this summer and it’s official!

Disney finally revealed opening date for the highly anticipated Toy Story Land. The new area created for Disney’s Hollywood Studios will officially open to guests on June 30. Some of the Disney Pixar trilogy’s beloved characters, Woody, Buzz, and Jessie, announced the news on Disney-owned ABC during its “Good Morning America” broadcast on Friday.

The latest addition to Disney’s Hollywood Studios will rest on 11 acres of land. Inspired by Pixar’s Toy Story films, the expansion will include family-friendly roller coaster Slinky Dog Dash, the twirly Alien Swirling Saucers ride and an expanded version of 3D-shooting ride Toy Story Mania with three tracks. Legoland Project X to Add Virtual Reality

Legoland Florida will add virtual reality to Project X roller coaster in Winter Haven.

Project X will be transformed into a virtual reality roller coaster. The new experience will be called The Great Lego Race.
The Winter Haven’s Project X roller coaster will be given a makeover and the current ride will be revamped into a new experience – The Great Lego Race VR Coaster.

Hunger Games And Twilight Are Getting Their Own Theme Park

Hunger Games and Twilight are getting their own zones at a theme park in South Korea. The company that owns both movies is planning to open a theme park in South Korea which will bring those films to life.
Twilight and Hunger Games film franchises may have ended years ago but the film studio Lionsgate Movie World will be opening a new theme park in South Korea in 2019. The park will be a 1.3-million-square-foot and will allow visitors to enjoy the blockbusters Twilight and Hunger Games.
The new theme park will reportedly feature state-of-the-art rides, attractions, reproduced streets and towns, and will offer the fans a new way to relive and adore the films.
The new theme park will feature seven distinct parks, each themed around one of Lionsgate’s blockbuster films: Twilight, The Hunger Games, Divergent, Now You See Me, Saw, The Cabin In The Woods and the upcoming Robin Hood, which stars Taron Egerton in the main role and will be released in 2018. Universal to Replace Dragon Challenge With New Harry Potter Ride

A Mysterious new ride is coming to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
One of the biggest rides in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will close permanently and Universal Orlando promises a huge new attraction will replace it.
In early September, the Dragon Challenge is going away and construction for a new attraction will begin. No further details have been released, but Universal says it will make way to something “highly themed with a few surprise.”
In a blog post, the theme park announced only a few days ago it is planning to make a “new generation of thrill ride” in the park. The new ride will replace the existing Dragon Challenge coaster at the Hogsmeade section of the Wizarding World in the Islands of Adventure theme park. Disney World’s Cirque du Soleil Show Closes This December

Cirque du Soleil closes La Nouba at Walt Disney World after a 19-year run and thousands of performances.
The final performance will be held at Disney Springs on Dec. 31, according to the Disney Parks Blog.
La Nouba premiered in late 1998 and was the first Cirque show to have a permanent residence in a city outside of Las Vegas. There have been more than 8,500 performances of the show and more than 10 million guests have enjoyed it, according to Disney.

Virtual Reality Added to SeaWorld’s Oldest Roller Coaster

SeaWorld has just completed the makeover of its 17-year-old roller coaster.
Kraken is the first major ride in Florida to add the high-tech option of virtual reality goggles. Although it is a major makeover for the coaster, it doesn’t involve any changes to the track.
The renovated coaster is getting a new name, Kraken Unleashed. SeaWorld gives its guests the feeling of simulated reality through technology that projects an undersea showdown with the ride’s namesake monster.

Disney Parks See Slight Drop in Attendance as Prices Rise

A new report shows attendance at Disney Parks is down for the first time in a decade. Increased ticket prices led to the decline in attendance.
Last year, Magic Kingdom in Orlando topped the list of most visited theme parks around the globe with more than 20.3 million visitors. Moreover, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios also made it in the Top 10.

SeaWorld Orlando To Add Sesame Street Land

SeaWorld Entertainment announced they are planning to build new Sesame Place theme park in Orlando.

Sesame Street and SeaWorld Parks are partnering to build a new Sesame Street land at its Orlando theme park by the year 2022. They are also considering a second Sesame Place theme park in a yet-unknown location in the United States.
