Disney World and James Cameron offer a deeper look into the new themed land tied to the hit film “Avatar.”
Just a few months ahead of the planned summer 2017 debut of Pandora, the long-awaited Avatar theme park at Disney World in Orlando, a new preview video has been released and fans were offered a sneak peek at on-ride footage from the two new rides.
After almost three years of construction, and right on Christmas day, Disney’s Animal Kingdom released a video showing more details about the new rides and brought visitors face-to-face with the exotic flora and fauna found in Avatar film series. The Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Cameron, who is behind the blockbuster that inspired the 12-acre theme park addition, and Joe Rohde, senior vice president and creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, appeared in the video and shared their thoughts on the new land.
James said that he couldn’t even express his feelings when he saw his ideas from the far 1995 “suddenly made physically real.” He added that “the cutting new technology” that is used in the theme park, has “never been applied before” and there would be “something amazing at the end of the ride” that one has never seen anything like in their life.
Avatar land will include several new rides including a boat tour of Pandora and the Flight of Passage, a simulator attraction that allows guests to learn the art of flying on a mountain Banshee. The Flight of Passage is expected to become a popular attraction very quickly. It has remained under wraps until now. The teaser video shows the massive three-level interior of the simulator where guests will ride vehicles modeled after the bodies of Banshees, dragon-like creatures from Pandora.
Last month, Walt Disney, the world’s largest theme-park operator, announced a summer 2017 debut of Pandora themed land.
