The Walking Dead attraction is coming permenantly to Universal Studios Hollywood and maybe soon to Orlando.
Universal Studios Hollywood announced a brand new attraction: The Walking Dead. Following three years of seasonal Walking Dead mazes, that became widely popular as part of the park’s annual Halloween Horror Nights, the television series will come to life as a permanent, immersive walk- through attraction. The attraction is scheduled to open later this year. It is described as ‘a new year-round attraction’ that will put guests into the walker-filled world of ‘the walking dead’ in various scenarios of the TV show. Guests will walk through different settings from the series all while trying to elude the zombie-like walkers. The attraction will be using both live performers and animatronics, as well as some of the most iconic scenes and environments.
Universal Studios Creative Director John Murdy said that the attraction will be a step up from the previous Universal Walking Dead created for Halloween Horror Nights. Apart from the animatronic characters, the attraction will feature far more detailed sets and significantly better special effects. The press release noted that the attraction will not be recommended for visitors under 13 because of its ‘intense nature’ as it was called in the park’s announcement.
Murdy reminded that the park has undergone “epic transformations” in the last few years: 75% of Universal Studios Hollywood has been changed and enhanced in recent years and the new Walking Dead attraction is just a part of a larger improvement. Murdy added that this will be one of the first attractions that guests will see when they enter the park as it will be located just inside of the park’s main entrance.
The press release comes just ahead the opening of the Hollywood version of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter which is slated for April 7 and was made successful here in Orlando. There is no official information yet that The Walking Dead attraction might come to Orlando theme park, however it is well known that the Universal parks tend to adopt rides from each other and with enough success at the Hollywood park, The Walking Dead is likely to become another permanent attraction for Orlando.
